Nineteen California State University, Chico students with major achievements in the classroom and in the community were honored at the 35th annual Lt. Robert Merton Rawlins Merit Award reception on Nov. 7. The American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC) Education, Research and Development Foundation has awarded a scholarship to Daniel Greene, a student in the Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program at Middle Tennessee State University, Murpheesboro, Tenn. CIM Junior, Claudia Martinez, was awarded the CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement. She was the only Chico State student and one of 23 CSU system students to receive this award. To get a jump-start for summer employment, 25 MTSU Concrete Industry Management students utilized a speed-networking environment to catch recruiters’ attention. On Feb. 25, Nicole Green, the department’s marketing and recruiting coordinator, brought in 18 companies from the industry for the speed-networking event. Speed-networking and similar events help students meet face-to-face with potential full-time employers.

The CIM four program universities were fortunate to be able to put theory into practice on a project in England recently. Students traveled to London and then on to the National Construction College in Bircham Newton, England in mid-March to participate in Constructionarium.
